This article describes the manual steps that you have to follow when you want to replace Windows Essential Business Server (EBS) Messaging Server after you deploy Exchange 2007 Service Pack 2 (SP2) in your EBS 2008 domain.
If you do not follow the manual steps that are described in article, the installation of Windows EBS Messaging Server will fail. The EBS Messaging Server Installation Wizard will crash, and you will receive an error message that resembles the following:
Windows Essential Business Server Setup has stopped working Windows can check online for a solution to the problem. Check online for a solution and close the program Close the program
Additionally, the following information will be logged in the MMSSetup.log file in the %ProgramFiles%\Windows Essential Business Server\Log folder:

Hub Transport Role Client Access Role Mailbox Role Management Tools

To replace Windows Essential Business Server (EBS) Messaging Server after you deploy Exchange 2007 Service Pack 2 (SP2) in your EBS 2008 domain, begin by following the first nine steps in the following "Replacing a Server for Windows Essential Business Server" document on Microsoft TechNet:
When you complete the first nine steps, Windows Server 2008 will successfully install. Next, you must complete the following additional steps.
Note If you install update rollups after you install Exchange 2007 Service Pack 2, you can still follow the procedure in this Knowledge Base article. The only additional step that is required is for you is to reinstall the update rollups after a successful replacement.
Additional manual steps that are required
After you follow the first nine steps in the "Replacing a Server for Windows Essential Business Server" document on Microsoft TechNet, and Windows Server 2008 is successfully installed, you will see the Welcome page of Windows EBS Messaging Server Installation Wizard. At this point, stop following the steps in the "Replacing a Server for Windows Essential Business Server" document. Next, follow these additional manual steps:
Unpack the Exchange 2007 SP2 binaries into the folder %ProgramFiles%\Windows Essential Business Server\Bin\EXCHSRVR80 folder. Replace the old binaries.
Press SHIFT+F10 to open a command prompt.
At a command prompt, type CD %ProgramFiles%\Internet Explorer, and then press ENTER.
At the command prompt, type iexplorer.exe to open Internet Explorer.
Download Exchange 2007 SP2. To do this, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
Return to the Command Prompt window, and then type iexplorer.exe to open Internet Explorer.
Locate the download folder, and then double-click Windows6.0-KB942288-v2-x64.msu to install Windows Installer 4.5
Restart the computer.
After the computer restarts successfully, replace the Windows EBS Messaging Server. To do this, continue from step 10 in the following "Replacing a Server for Windows Essential Business Server" document on Microsoft TechNet:
