On a Windows Server 2008-based computer, you have Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) 7.5 for Internet Information Services (IIS) 7.0 installed.
You enable the WebDAV feature on a Web site, and enable locks for the WebDAV.
Note You can enable locks in the WebDAV settings page in IIS Manager by setting the Allow Locks setting to a value of "True. For more information, refer to the "More information" section."
You open a document from the WebDAV-enabled Web site by using a WebDAV client. For example, you open a Microsoft Word document in Microsoft Word.
You make some site level changes to the IIS configuration. For example, you create a new virtual directory in IIS.
You change the opened document, and you try to save these changes.
In this scenario, you cannot save the document to the WebDAV Web folder. Additionally, you receive an error message on the client. The error message varies, depending on what WebDAV client you are using. For example, if you use Microsoft Word to edit the document, you receive an error message that resembles the following:
There has been a network or file permission error. The network connection may be lost
When the site level configuration is changed in IIS 7.0, the lock information in WebDAV 7.5 is lost. This causes a failure when changes to the document are being saved back to the WebDAV Web folder.
The following files are available for download from the Microsoft download center:

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
Note WebDav 7.0 for IIS 7 does not support the LOCK and UNLOCK verbs. Therefore, this problem does not occur in WebDAV7.0.
