A Group Policy Immediate Task preference item does not run on a client computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario:
  • In a domain network environment, you create an Immediate Task (in Windows Vista and later versions) item in a Group Policy object (GPO).
  • You apply this Group Policy object to a client computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
In this scenario, the Immediate Task does not run on the client computer. When you open the Task Scheduler snap-in in the Microsoft Management Console (MMC), you see that the Immediate Task item was displayed in the History tab. However, this task does not run.
CAUSE
This issue occurs because the Immediate Task expires when the start time and the end time of the task are the same on the client computer.

Note Group Policy preferences (GPP) uses time trigger to store the local time variant. The local time variant specifies the start time and the end time of the Immediate Task. When you apply the Group Policy object to the client computer, the start time and the end time of the Immediate Task are replaced by the local time in the client computer. Therefore, the start time is same as the end time on the client computer. This behavior causes the task to expire immediately.
