Windows Media Player 12 stops responding after you resume the computer from sleep and you try to play a DVD: "Windows Media Player is not responding"

SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario:
  • You play a DVD in Windows Media Player 12.
  • You put the computer to sleep.
  • You resume the computer from sleep, and then click Play DVD.
In this scenario, Windows Media Player stops responding and you receive the following error message:
Windows Media Player is not responding.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because of a problem in the DVD Bookmarking feature.
RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Prerequisites

To apply this hotfix, your computer must be running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. Additionally, the computer must have the Online Responder role service installed.

Restart information

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

To work around this problem, exit and then restart Windows Media Player.
