The "Performance Information and Tools" item in Control Panel and the Windows System Assessment Tool API report that DirectX 11 graphics adapters only support DirectX 10 in Windows 7

You have a computer that is running Windows 7. The computer has a graphics adapter that supports DirectX 11. You try to determine the version of DirectX that the graphic adapter supports by using one of the following tools:
  • The Performance Information and Tools item in Control Panel
Note To determine which version of DirectX that the graphic adapter supports by using this tool, double-click Performance Information and Tools in Control Panel, and then click View and print detailed performance and system information.
  • The Windows System Assessment Tool (WinSAT) API
However, these tools report that the graphics adapter only supports DirectX 10.
This issue is caused by a limitation of these tools in Windows 7. The latest version of DirectX that these tools can report is DirectX 10. This limitation does not affect the hardware functionality or the software functionality of the graphics adapter.
This is a known limitation in the products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. Microsoft is aware of this limitation and will post more information in this article when such information becomes available.
