You have a computer that is running Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 Service Pack 2 (SP2) site server
The distribution point role is enabled on this site server.
In this scenario, the memory usage of the SMS_EXECUTIVE service (Smsexec.exe) keeps increasing.
This issue occurs because the Distribution Manager does not manage allocated memory correctly when the SRV files are processed. This behavior causes some allocated memory not to be released. Therefore, a memory leak occurs.
To resolve this issue, install the hotfix for the Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article 978021 on all System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 site servers that have the distribution point role enabled.
978021 The Distribution Manager that is in System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 does not honor the "Number of retries" and "Delay before retrying (minutes)" retry settings
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
