Microsoft Silverlight is a cross-browser, multi-environment plug-in that delivers the next generation of Microsoft .NET–based media experiences and rich interactive applications for the Web. This article describes an update for Silverlight. This update was released on January 19, 2010.
An update is available for Microsoft Silverlight. This update offers a new build that is an upgrade to earlier versions of Silverlight. This update is included in current Silverlight installers. If your computer does not have Silverlight installed, the installer will be offered to you by Microsoft Update or by Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).
This update includes functional, performance, reliability, and security improvements. This update is backward-compatible with Web applications that were created by using earlier versions of Silverlight.
Issues that are fixed by this update
Issue 1You create a Silverlight 3 application that uses the hardware acceleration feature of the graphics processing unit (GPU). If errors occur in the GPU drivers when you run the Silverlight 3 application, the Silverlight 3 application cannot correctly display the content. This problem occurs because Silverlight 3 incorrectly handles errors that occur in the GPU drivers.
Issue 2CPU usage is high when you use the Deep Zoom feature in Silverlight 3. This problem occurs when the Deep Zoom feature cannot load or decode a tile. The problem persists even if you minimize the Web browser in which the Silverlight 3 application is running.
Issue 3When you try to download information in a Silverlight application, the application crashes.
