Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer that has the Remote Desktop Service role installed.

  • Many users try to log on to or log off from the Remote Desktop server at the same time.

Note this issue may occur when seven to ten users try to log on or log off at the same time.

In this scenario, the Remote Desktop server denies some connection requests. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

The remote procedure call failed and did not execute.

Note If a user tries to connect again, the user may be succeed at the second try.

Cause

This issue is caused by a race condition in the remote procedure call (RPC) module.
