Error message when you open a Test Results window or when you run a unit test after you install a compatibility update for TFS 2010 on a computer that is running Visual Studio 2008 SP1

Consider the following scenario on a computer that is running Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 (SP1):
  • You have a computer that has Microsoft Visual Studio Team System 2008 Team Explorer installed.
  • You install Microsoft Visual Studio Team System 2008 Service Pack 1 Forward Compatibility Update for Team Foundation Server 2010.
  • On the Visual Studio 2008 IDE, you do one of the following:
    • On the Test menu, you click Windows, and then you click Test Results.
    • You try to run a unit test.
In this scenario, you receive the following error message:
Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation
Note This issue does not occur when you connect to a TFS server from Team Explorer.

You must have Visual Studio 2008 SP1 installed to apply this hotfix.

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply the hotfix if no instance of Visual Studio is being used.
