Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010
Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010
You use the “Open” dialog box in an Office client application to open files by connecting to a Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 document library. In this case, the “Open” dialog box displays no files.
Note This problem occurs when the SharePoint document library contains many files.
This problem occurs because the "Open" dialog box tries to display all the files in the document library even when there are many files. If the system administrator sets a performance rule to throttle the database results when the database returns many items, the result are blank. For example, this behavior occurs when the database returns items that number more than 5000.
To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods:
Open a file by typing the file name in the "File name" box.
Contact the database administrator to change the throttling rules
Reorganize the document library by adding folders that contain fewer items than the throttling limit in each folder.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
