Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Group Chat Server cannot log some PART or JOIN events if an abnormal drop from Group Chat Server occurs

SYMPTOMS
Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Group Chat Server cannot log some PART or JOIN events if an abnormal drop from the Group Chat Server occurs. For example, consider the following scenario:
  • UserA and UseB join a chat room.
  • UserA kills the Group Chat client at 12:00am by clicking End Task in Task Manager.
  • UserA rejoins the same chat room at 12:05am.
  • UserB types "hello" in a chat with UserA at 12:30am.
In this scenario, Group Chat Server does not log the first time that UserA leaves the chat room or the time that UserA rejoin the chat room. Additionally, Group Chat Server logs the PART time for UserA at 12:31am and logs the chat in which UserB types "hello"at 12:30am.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the PART timestamp is not accurately tracked when an abnormal drop from Group Chat Server occurs.
RESOLUTION
To fix this problem, install the following update:
980042 Update package for Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Group Chat Server: April 2010
