Warning: The retired, out-of-support Internet Explorer 11 desktop application has been permanently disabled through a Microsoft Edge update on certain versions of Windows 10. For more information, see Internet Explorer 11 desktop app retirement FAQ.

Symptoms

You create a shortcut (.lnk file) for Windows Internet Explorer in the Favorites folder. This shortcut opens a specified URL in a new Internet Explorer window. However, this shortcut does not work correctly when you click the shortcut under the Favorites menu on the menu bar in Windows Explorer. In this situation, your homepage is displayed in the new Internet Explorer window instead of the specified URL.

Notes

  • The Favorites folder refers to the %userprofile%\Favorites folder.

  • This issue does not occur when you click the shortcut from the Favorites button on the toolbar in Internet Explorer 8.

  • If you experience a similar issue in Windows Internet Explorer 7, please install hotfix 952729 and add the FEATURE_SHELLEXEC_FAVCENTER_KB952729 feature control key. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

To reproduce this issue, see the "More information" section.
