The Outlook OST Integrity Checker tool (Scanost.exe) is not installed with Microsoft Outlook 2010 and later versions.
We previously recommended that you use the Scanost.exe tool for errors that occur with your offline Outlook Data File (.ost) or with synchronization issues. We now recommend that you delete your offline Outlook Data File (.ost) and that you let Outlook re-download the information from the server that is running Microsoft Exchange.
In the case that your offline Outlook Data File (.ost) has local data that is not present on the server, we recommend that you export the data to an Outlook Data File (.pst), and then you delete your offline Outlook Data File (.ost). After the data is downloaded from the Exchange server, you can import the Outlook Data File (.pst) into the new offline Outlook Data File (.ost). During the import, you can exclude any duplicate data from the Outlook Data File (.pst).
To import the Outlook Data File (.pst) into the new offline Outlook Data File (.ost), follow these steps:
- On the File tab, click Open, and then click Import.
- Select Import from another program or file, and then click Next.
- Select Outlook data file (.pst), and then click Next.
- Click Browse, and then locate the PST file that you exported.
- Select Do not import duplicates, and then click Next.
- Under Select destination folder, click a folder to which you want to import the information, and then click Next.
- Click Finish.
Scanost.exe is used in earlier versions of Outlook to verify the integrity of synchronized data. You can still run the Inbox Repair Tool (Scanpst.exe) on an offline Outlook Data File (.ost) to check and repair the internal data structures. Because this Scanpst.exe process can take a long time to run, you may decide instead to replace the offline Outlook Data File (.ost) as described earlier. Also, because Scanpst.exe makes a backup copy of the .pst or .ost file that is being scanned, you may be limited by disk space.
