A hotfix is available for performance issues in Windows Communication Foundation for the .NET Framework 4.0

INTRODUCTION
This article describes a hotfix that addresses the following performance issues in Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) for the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0.

Issue 1

When a client application opens and closes TCP connections to a Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) service quickly, memory fragmentation may occur in the generation 0 heap. This fragmentation can adversely affect the performance of the WCF service.

This problem occurs because buffers that are allocated to receive data from the TCP connection are not released until the connection is closed. In some cases these buffers are pinned. Therefore, the buffers cannot be reclaimed by garbage collection.

Issue 2

The way that objects are allocated to the Large Object Heap (LOH) for WCF services may result in memory fragmentation.

This hotfix optimizes the way that objects are allocated to the LOH to prevent memory fragmentation and improve memory usage.
