When composing an email message, you can quickly get a count of the number of words, characters, and paragraphs within the message body.

  1. Create a new message, or with an existing message, click Reply, Reply All, or Forward.

  2. In the message window, on the Review tab, in the Proofing group, click Word Count.

    Click Word Count on the Review tab

    The Word Count dialog box appears.

    Shows the word count, number of pages in a document.

    In addition to word count, more statistics are included such as character and paragraph count.
