How do I disable automatic updates for Sticky Notes?

By default, the Sticky Notes app is automatically updated as new features are added and app issues become resolved.

You can disable automatic Sticky Notes updating in your organization by using enterprise app management services.

To disable automatic updates, set the PackageFamilyName parameter and the DoNotUpdate operation:

  • PackageFamilyName: Set this parameter to:

    Microsoft.MicrosoftStickyNotes_8wekyb3d8bbwe

  • DoNotUpdate: Include this operation in the update code.

For example, the following code snippet includes the correct parameter and operation to prevent Sticky Notes from updating automatically on users' PCs:

<LocURI>./Device/Vendor/MSFT/EnterpriseModernAppManagement/AppManagement/AppStore/Microsoft.MicrosoftStickyNotes_8wekyb3d8bbwe/DoNotUpdate</LocURI>

Learn more about how to use this code snippet in your enterprise app management code in order to disable automatic app updates.

Important: Keep in mind, when you use this code snippet to manage app updating in your organization, users can still update Sticky Notes if an offline package is pushed from a hosted install location.

How do I retrieve deleted sticky notes?

Note deletion is permanent. It cannot be undone.

You can minimize the chance of deleting notes by mistake by making sure you've turned on the note deletion prompt. Click or tap the Settings icon located on the upper-right of the list of notes, and then set the Confirm before deleting button to On.

How do I disable Insights for Sticky Notes?

By default, users can enable Insights within Sticky Notes. You can disable Insights from being turned on for Sticky Notes in your organization.

With Insights turned on, when users type notes that contain a date, time, phone number, or address, Sticky Notes uses Microsoft services to offer enhancements to the note, such as creating a reminder in Cortana if a date is recognized.

Disabling insights can be controlled by the Policy configuration service provider (CSP) for Windows 10.

Do the following to disable insights:

  • Within the CSP, set the Accounts/AllowMicrosoftAccountConnection policy value to

    0 - Not allowed

Users can also turn off insights for local installations of Sticky Notes.

  • To run off Insights locally, on the Note list, click the gear icon located in the upper right, and then set the Enable insights option to Off.

How do I disable syncing?

By default, Sticky Notes will prompt users to sign in to sync their notes. You can disable Sticky Notes syncing with a user's other devices, with other apps that use Sticky Notes, or with the web.

Automatic syncing can be controlled by the Policy configuration service provider (CSP) for Windows 10.

Do the following to disable syncing:

  • Within the CSP, set the Accounts/AllowMicrosoftAccountConnection policy value to

    0 - Not allowed

Sticky notes won't stay on top?

You cannot currently have Sticky Notes stay on top of other applications. But you can pin Sticky Notes to the Windows taskbar to see your list of notes instantly or to create a new note quickly. Right-click the Sticky Notes icon in the taskbar, and then click Pin to taskbar.

I can't change the font text or size

You cannot currently change the font or size of note text directly from within the Sticky Notes app. But you change the text size for apps in general using Windows settings.

  1. In Windows 10, click or tap the Start button, and then select Settings .

  2. Click or tap Ease of Access.

Tip: You can quickly go to Access settings by typing “ease of access” into the Search box on the Windows 10 taskbar.

  3. Under Make text bigger, move the font slider to the right until the Sample text looks better.

  4. Click or tap Apply.

Note: You cannot change the font using Windows settings. You can only change the font size.
