If you want to save information that you come across in a web search, OneNote is the perfect place for it. By using Internet Explorer and OneNote together, you can capture web pages and add them into your notes.

Use Internet Explorer to send a web page to OneNote

  1. In Internet Explorer, open the page you want to capture.

  2. Right-click a blank area of the page and click Send to OneNote.

  3. In the dialog box that opens, choose a location for the page, and then click OK.

If you don't like the way a web page looks after you’ve added it to your notebook, you can undo the action by pressing Ctrl+Z.

Note: Another way to send web content to OneNote is to add the OneNote Web Clipper to your browser. It works with Internet Explorer, Edge, Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. Open your browser, and go to

Capture only part of a web page and send it to OneNote

You can Insert a screen clipping on a page instead of sending a web page to OneNote. Screen clippings are snapshots of your computer screen that you can file away anywhere in your notebook.

To use keyboard shortcuts to capture only a part of the screen, press Windows+Shift+S, and when the screen dims, select the area you want to capture. (If you’re Windows 8.0 or earlier, press Windows+S.) When you create a screen clipping using the keyboard shortcut, OneNote displays the Select Location in OneNote dialog box so you can choose where to send the clipping.
