Recover an earlier version of an Office file - Microsoft Support
Go to File > Info. Under Manage Workbook or Manage Presentation, select the file labeled (when I closed without saving). In the bar at the top of the file, select Restore to overwrite any previously saved versions. Tip: In Word, you can also compare versions by clicking Compare instead of Restore.

Compare two versions of a workbook by using Spreadsheet Compare
In the lower-left pane, choose the options you want included in the workbook comparison, such as formulas, cell formatting, or macros. Or, just Select All. On the Home tab, choose Compare Files. In the Compare Files dialog box, in the Compare row, browse to the earlier version of your workbook.

Compare two versions of a project - Microsoft Support

Compare two versions of a database (Database Compare)
You can use Database Compare to compare the one version of an Access desktop database to another. You’ll see difference, such as new or changed tables, queries, fields, field properties, and so on, in a SQL Server Reporting Services report that you can export to Excel or save in PDF format.

Compare document differences using the legal blackline option
Open the documents that you want to compare. On the Review tab, in the Compare group, click Compare. Click Compare two versions of a document (legal blackline). Under Original document, browse for the document that you want to use as the original document.
