Summary
This security update resolves a Microsoft Office security feature bypass vulnerability. To learn more about the vulnerability, see Microsoft Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures CVE-2022-33632.
Note: To apply this security update, you must have the release version of Office 2016 installed on the computer.
Be aware that the update in the Microsoft Download Center applies to the Microsoft Installer (.msi)-based edition of Office 2016. It doesn't apply to the Office 2016 Click-to-Run editions, such as Microsoft Office 365 Home. (See What version of Office am I using?)
Known issues in this update

After this update is installed, when you open an ACCDE or MDE file in Microsoft Access, you might receive an error message that states, "Requested type library or wizard is not a VBA project." Additionally, the file won't open. For more information, see Error when trying to open an ACCDE/MDE file created in a different version of Access.
This issue is fixed in the August 2, 2022, update for Office 2016 (KB5002248). -
After this update is installed, you might receive an error message when you run a VBA macro that links to files or folders whose names are in languages that contain double-byte characters, such as Japanese, Korean, and Chinese. To resolve this issue, see the following Knowledge Base article:

When you try to open a Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) project by using the correct password, you receive an "Invalid password" error message. For more information, see Error "Invalid password" when opening a VBA project using the correct password.
This issue is fixed in the September 6, 2022, update for Office 2016 (KB5002251).
