References help Copilot generate answers based on the content you’ve added to your Copilot notebook. If a reference is no longer relevant, you can remove it at any time to keep your notebook focused and up to date.

Note: A Microsoft 365 Copilot license is required to use Copilot Notebooks. Additionally, accounts must have a SharePoint or OneDrive license (service plan) in order to create notebooks. Copilot Notebooks is also available for Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, and Premium subscribers. Learn more about Microsoft 365 Copilot licensing and Microsoft 365 Copilot plans.

Note: Some features described in this article are rolling out gradually and may not yet be available in your experience.

How to delete a reference from your notebook

  1. In the Microsoft 365 Copilot​​​​​​​ app select Notebooks to expand the list.

  2. Select All notebooks, then open your notebook.

  3. Under References in the left pane, find the reference you want to remove.

  4. Hover over the reference.

  5. Select the More buttonThree dots.

  6. Select Remove.

Note: Removing a reference doesn’t delete the original file or content. It only removes it from your notebook.
