You may receive a "The Great_Plains.vba project references some objects that cannot be found" error message when you try to start Microsoft Dynamics GP Utilities

Symptoms

When you try to start Microsoft Dynamics GP Utilities or Microsoft Business Solutions - Great Plains Utilities, you may receive the following error message:

The Great_Plains.vba project references some objects that cannot be found. These objects are listed in the file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Business Solutions\Great Plains\Dynamics.txt

Additionally, either of the following may be listed in the Dynamics.txt file:

  • Objects or calculated fields that were added to Microsoft Dynamics GP windows or to Microsoft Business Solutions - Great Plains windows by using Modifier.

  • Calculated fields that were added to Microsoft Dynamics GP reports or to Microsoft Business Solutions - Great Plains reports by using Report Writer.

Cause

This issue occurs if you use Modifier and VBA or Report Writer and VBA to customize any one of the following:

  • A Microsoft Dynamics GP report or a Microsoft Business Solutions - Great Plains report

  • A user-defined report

  • A Microsoft Dynamics GP window or a Microsoft Business Solutions - Great Plains window

Microsoft Dynamics GP and Microsoft Business Solutions - Great Plains were not designed to open files that have been customized by using Modifier and VBA or Report Writer and VBA.

When you start Microsoft Dynamics GP Utilities or Microsoft Business Solutions - Great Plains Utilities, the program tries to verify that the objects in the Dynamics.vba file match the objects that have been added to the Forms.dic file and to the Reports.dic file. However, when you start Microsoft Dynamics GP Utilities or Microsoft Business Solutions - Great Plains Utilities, the Dynutils.set file points to the Duform.dic file and to the Durpt.dic file. The Dynutils.set file does not point to the Forms.dic file or to the Reports.dic file. Because the resources in the Dynamics.vba file cannot be found in the Duform.dic file or in the Durpt.dic file, you receive the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.

Duform.dic and Durpt.dic are false names for Forms.dic and Reports.dic.

Workaround

To work around the issue, ignore the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section. VBA customization code and code changes do not run in Microsoft Dynamics GP Utilities or in Microsoft Business Solutions - Great Plains Utilities. Therefore, even when you make modifications in Microsoft Dynamics GP or in Microsoft Business Solutions - Great Plains, these modifications do not run in Microsoft Dynamics GP Utilities or in Microsoft Business Solutions - Great Plains Utilities.
