When you receive an e-mail message from a Microsoft Exchange user in Microsoft Outlook, right-click the user's name in the To field, and then click Look Up Contact, you may receive an error message that resembles the following error message:

Could not find a contact with this e-mail address.

This behavior occurs because the "Look Up Contact" feature searches the "Local Contacts" folder and does not search the global address list.

Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007

To work around this behavior, search the global address list for the contact name. To do so, double-click the name in the  To field of the e-mail message.

Outlook 2010

To access the Outlook Properties dialog on Outlook 2010, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click the recipient's name, and then click Contact Card on the context menu that appears.

  2. On the Contact Card, click the fourth button to expand the drop-down menu to View more options for interacting with this person.

  3. In the drop-down menu, click Outlook Properties.
