Moving your files and apps

Is your Surface feeling a little empty? Move over all your music, photos, videos, and documents to fill up some space. Here are a few things to try.

See how much space you have

Before you move everything over, make sure you have enough room for all your stuff.

Select File Explorer on the taskbar or the Start menu, then select This PC in the left pane. You’ll see how much space you have and how much of it is available.

Set up OneDrive

is free online storage that comes with your Microsoft account. Save your files there and you’ll be able to get to them from your Surface, plus any of your other PCs, tablets, or phones.

To move files to OneDrive, open File Explorer and then drag them into a OneDrive folder.

Reinstall your apps

If you bought your apps from the Windows Store, you can install them on all your Windows 10 devices (including your Surface) for free.
