Outlook prompts for credentials when you change networks

In Microsoft Outlook 2010 or Outlook 2013, you are prompted to enter your credentials when you change your network connection. For example, this symptom occurs when you switch from a Wi-Fi connection to a LAN connection.

This issue occurs if the Windows Firewall Outbound connections option is set to Block on the Public Profile tab.

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Set Windows Firewall Outbound connections to Allow
  1. In Control Panel, click Windows Firewall, and then click Advanced settings.
  2. Right-click Windows Firewall with Advanced Security on Local Computer.
  3. Click Properties, and then click the Public Profile tab.
  4. Select the Outbound Connections drop-down list, select Allow, and then click OK.

Method 2: Allow only outbound connections for Outlook
  1. In Control Panel, click Windows Firewall, and then click Advanced Settings.
  2. In the navigation pane (on the left), click Outbound Rules, and then right-click Outbound Rules.
  3. Click New Rule.
  4. Select Program, and then click Next.

  5. Under This program path, enter the installed location of Outlook.exe, and then click Next.

  6. Click Allow the connection.

  7. Select only the Public option, and then click Next.

  8. Add a name and a description, and then click Finish.
