Outlook Calendar is not displayed in the Folder pane or Folder list

When you try to view the Calendar in Microsoft Outlook, you experience the following symptoms:

  • The calendar does not appear in the Folder Pane or the Folder List.
  • When you click Calendar, the Folder pane on the left changes to your My Calendars list. However, the calendar does not appear. Instead, the contents of the last folder that you were viewing are displayed. Additionally, the ribbon does not change to calendar-specific commands; instead it displays commands that are specific to the last folder that you were viewing.
  • If you right-click Calendar and then select Open in New Window, the calendar is displayed in the new window. If you then select a second or a shared calendar to also display, the original calendar name is not listed on the Calendar tab.

This behavior may occur if the PR_ATTR_HIDDEN property of the Calendar folder is set to True. The default value for this property is False.

Follow these steps to confirm that you are experiencing this issue and to reset the PR_ATTR_HIDDEN property of the affected folder:

  1. Download and extract the MFCMapi tool from http://mfcmapi.codeplex.com.
  2. Start mfcmapi.exe, and then click OK through the intro screen.
  3. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  4. Select the Use MAPI_NO_CACHE flag when calling OpenEntry option, and then click OK.
  5. On the Session menu, click Logon.
  6. Select the Outlook profile for the affected mailbox, and then click OK.
  7. Double-click the email address that represents the mailbox in question.
  8. In the navigation pane, expand Root Container.
  9. Expand Top of Information Store.
  10. Locate and select the Calendar folder in the navigation pane, and locate the PR_ATTR_HIDDEN property.
  11. Check the value of the PR_ATTR_HIDDEN to determine whether it's set to True, as shown in the following screen shot:

PR_ATT_HIDDEN Property is set to True for the Calendar Folder.

  12. If PR_ATTR_HIDDEN shows a value of True, right-click the PR_ATTR_HIDDEN property, and then select Edit Property.
  13. Clear the Boolean check box, and then click OK.
  14. Close all MFCMAPI windows, and then restart Outlook.

More Information

While you are looking at the folder properties, you should also check PR_ATTR_SYSTEM. Its default value is also False. Therefore, if you find it currently set to True after you complete steps 1–13 in the "Resolution" section, you should also change this value. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. If PR_ATTR_SYSTEM shows a value of True, right-click the PR_ATTR_SYSTEM property, and then select Edit Property.
  2. Clear the Boolean check box, and then click OK.
  3. Close all MFCMAPI windows, and then restart Outlook.
