Lync 2013 does not select the expected speaker and microphone devices

When you set a speaker and microphone as the default audio device in Windows, Microsoft Lync 2013 does not always use this audio device for Lync calls.

This issue occurs because the way that default audio devices are selected is changed in Lync 2013. Lync 2013 uses the default Windows communication device, except in the following scenarios:
  • If the computer has an "Optimized for Microsoft Lync" device connected, Lync 2013 prioritizes this device. If the computer has more than one"Optimized for Microsoft Lync" devicesconnected, the device that is highest in the Lync 2013 hierarchy is used.
  • If the computer does not have an "Optimized for Microsoft Lync" device connected, and you select the audio device manually by using the Manage Audio Devices option in Lync 2013.
  • When Lync 2013 runs in a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environment, and you manage the audio device for Lync 2013 by using the Sound dialog box in Windows. For example, you can disable the unwanted playback device or recording device.
