FIX: User cannot establish a 3270 emulator session in a Host Integration Server 2010 environment

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario. You have valid users who are configured correctly in a Microsoft Host Integration Server 2010 environment. A valid user tries to establish a session by using a 3270 emulator. In this scenario, the user may receive an empty or incorrect list of logical units (LUs) or LU pools. Therefore, the session cannot be established.

Cause

This problem may occur because an invalid user was added and because LUs or LU pools were associated to this invalid user through the SNACFG utility. When this problem occurs, valid users may receive an empty or incorrect list of LUs or LU pools. For more information, see the "More Information" section.

Resolution

Cumulative update information

The fix that resolves this problem is included in cumulative update package 7 for Host Integration Server 2010. For more information about how to obtain the cumulative update package, see Cumulative update package 7 for Host Integration Server 2010.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

More information

The SNACFG utility that is included with Host Integration Server 2010 does not check whether a user who is being added is a valid domain user. Additionally, LU resources can be added to an invalid user. When this problem occurs, an invalid record exists in the configuration file. This corrupts the resource association.
