- You have a Microsoft SharePoint server for which the web policy to allow for anonymous access is enabled. And, anonymous access is enabled on the SharePoint site.
- You connect the client computer to the SharePoint site, and then you click the link to open a Microsoft Word 2010 or 2013 file, a Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 or 2013 file, or a Microsoft Excel 2010 or 2013 file.
- You cancel the prompt to provide your user credentials when you open the file.
- The file opens as read-only in the Word, PowerPoint, or Excel application, and then you close the file.
- You disconnect the client computer from the network that contains the SharePoint site.
In this scenario, you may expect that the file is cached on the client computer and that you can reopen the file from the local Office document cache on your computer. However, the file was not cached to the local Office document cache on your computer.
- Provide your user credentials when you open the file as read-only on a SharePoint server that allows for anonymous access.
- Open the file in Edit mode. To do this, the file must reside on a SharePoint server that does not enable anonymous access.
- Documents are opened in Edit mode and are not opened anonymously.
- Documents are opened in read-only mode when you provide your user credentials from a SharePoint site or from other document management servers that support web-authoring protocols such as File Synchronization via SOAP over HTTP (FSSHTTP), WebDAV, or FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions from Microsoft.
