If you’re having problems charging your Microsoft Band, try these solutions.
Check the power source
Make sure your Microsoft Band’s USB charging cable is connected to a USB port (USB 2.0 or greater) that can supply power. Powered USB ports include those on your computer and those on USB hubs or adapters connected to a power source.
- Most USB hubs don’t supply power and won’t charge your Band.
- On desktop PCs, powered USB ports are often on the back of the PC.
- AC adapters, like those that power your phone, are generally sufficient to power your Band.
- Try charging something else, such as your phone, from the USB port to make sure the port is working properly.
Attach the charging cable to your Band
If your Band is unresponsive, it may be in two-button recovery mode. When your Band is in two-button recovery mode, it will be unresponsive to all interactions, even if it’s fully charged. You can exit two-button recovery mode simply by attaching the charging cable to your Band. This automatically wakes your Band from two-button recovery.
Clean the charging port and charging connector
Make sure the charging port on your Band and the magnetic charging connector on the USB charging cable are clean and dry. You can wipe off sweat, dust, or grime with a clean, dry cloth or towel, but in some instances your Band may require additional cleaning. To remove tarnish or built-up grime on the gold contacts, follow these steps:
Cleaning the charging port on your Band
|Step 1:||Moisten a clean cotton swab with isopropyl alcohol. |
Use only enough alcohol to moisten the swab—do not soak the swab.
|Step 2:||Scrub the seven gold contact points on the underside of the Band’s face. Try to avoid the silver plate surrounding the contacts as much as possible.|
|Step 3:||Continue scrubbing the contact points with clean, alcohol-moistened swabs until the swabs no longer pick up any debris and the contact points are shiny.|
Cleaning the USB charging connector
|Step 1:||Unplug the USB charging cable from your PC or AC adapter, if it’s connected.|
|Step 2:||Using a clean cotton swab moistened with isopropyl alcohol, gently wipe down on the gold contact points on the charging connector.|
|Step 3:||Continue wiping the contact points with swabs until the swabs no longer pick up any debris and the contact points are shiny.|

Try charging again
When the contact points are clean and shiny, try charging your Band again. If it still doesn’t charge, try Solution 1.
While it’s charging, your Band should show the current percentage of battery power remaining, and as your Band charges that percentage should increase. Here’s how to check:
|Step 1:||Connect the magnetic charging connector on the USB charging cable to the charging port on your Band, and plug the USB end of the cable into a powered USB port or an AC adapter.|
|Step 2:||Press the power button to see your Band’s current charging status. (The time, date, and battery status display against a dark background.) |
If your Band’s battery appears to be stuck at 80 percent, it is likely still charging correctly. Although the battery may reach 80 percent after charging for 20 minutes, it can take two or more hours to charge the battery to the full 100 percent. This is normal for this type of battery.
Solution 2: Restart your Band
Make sure you have your Band’s USB charging cable on hand before taking these steps.
|Step 1:||Press and hold both the power button and the action button on your Band for 20 seconds, and then release both buttons.|
|Step 2:||Attach the USB charging cable to your Band, plug the USB end of the cable into a USB power source, and press the power button. |
