Get the Microsoft Band app now
Here are some tips to get you going
Two buttons and a touchscreen are all you need to navigate the features on your band.
You can see the UV sensor and mic on the outside of the band, and the charging port and heart rate monitor on the inside surface. Other things, like the accelerometer and GPS, are sealed inside. For more info about the sensors, see Microsoft Band sensors.
The clasp snaps into an adjustment slot. Squeeze the tabs on either side of the clasp to adjust the fit or take the band off.
When you take your Microsoft Band out of the box, check the fit and then wake it up by starting to charge it.
Check the fit
|Step 1:||Put your Band on your wrist, position the clasp over the slot, and push it into place. |
|Step 2:||To adjust or remove your Band, squeeze the tabs on the side of the clasp.|
Your Band should be snug and comfortable, without moving. For more info, see Get the right fit.
Charge your Band
When you start charging your Band, it wakes up and starts guiding you through setup. Here’s how to charge your Band:
|Step 1:||The first time you charge your Band, remove the protective strip from the charging port.|
|Step 2:||Connect the magnetic charging connector on the USB charging cable to the charging port on your Band (either direction works) and plug the USB end of the cable into a powered USB port (USB 2.0 or greater).|
Your Band comes with a partial charge that’s usually enough to get you set up. If it doesn’t have enough charge to complete setup, you’ll see this screen prompting you to charge your Band:

Make sure your phone supports the Microsoft Band app. See Microsoft Band system requirements for more info.

|Step 2:||Install the Microsoft Band app as you would any other app on your phone.|
During setup, the Microsoft Band app asks you to sign in with your Microsoft account
|Step 1:||On your Band, press the power button and choose your language.|
|Step 2:||Swipe left and select your phone’s operating system.|
|Step 3:||Swipe left and tap Pair now.|
|Step 4:|| |
On your phone, tap the Microsoft Band app, tap Sign in, enter your Microsoft account info, and tap Next.
|Step 5:||If this is the first time you are signing in to the Band app, validate that you accept the Band app Terms & Conditions and tap I agree.|

Enter your Profile info and tap Next.
|Step 7:||Choose which type of Band you own.|
|Step 8:|| |
Tap scan now and tap the name of your Band.
|Step 9:||On your phone, enter the PIN code that appears on your Band and tap Pair.|
|Step 10:|| |
On your phone, tap Next > Allow.
|Step 11:||If updates for your Band are available, tap Start update.|
|Step 12:||After updates have installed, tap Finish.|
|Step 13:||On your Band, press the action button to start. A flashing arrow will point to the action button.|
As part of setup, the Band app asks for personal profile info like your age, height, and weight. The info you provide is used to calculate things like the distance you travel in a day or how many calories you burn during a workout, so be as accurate as possible.
As you work on your fitness goals, you can update your profile info any time.
You can also set the theme color and wallpaper for your Band’s touchscreen.

Microsoft Band tiles and Start Strip
Press the power button to see the Me Tile, your home screen on your Band. From the Me Tile, swipe left to see the rest of your tiles on the Start Strip.
From the Me Tile you can:
- Press the action button to cycle through indicators for the steps you’ve taken, distance traveled, calories burned, and heart rate. You can tap the Me Tile and swipe left to see the same information.
- Drag the tile to the right to see the status bar showing battery level, daily heart rate monitor status (if the monitor is turned on), and Bluetooth® status (if Bluetooth is turned on).
Tap a tile to open it. For example, tap the Run Tile Asset not found to start a run or view key stats from your most recent run. Or tap the Mail Tile to check recent email messages.
Lots of tiles to choose from
Your Band has tiles for fitness, communication, social media, news and information, and more:
Asset not found Use the Sleep Tile to track how long and how well you sleep.
Asset not found Tap the Weather Tile for current weather and forecasts.
Asset not found Tap the Finance Tile for info about your favorite stocks, indices, and more.

To close a tile and return to the Start Strip, tap the left edge of the screen.
Change settings right on your BandTap the Settings Tile
You can choose whether your Band touchscreen is dark or shows the time, day, and date. To do this, tap the Settings Tile
Use the Microsoft Band app on your phone to manage your Band and to view detailed info about your activities. Here are a just few of the things you can do from the Band app’s Home screen:
View your recent activity
Manage your Band
Tap History to see a list of your recent activities.
Tap Profile to edit personal info such as your age, weight, and height.
Tap Find a Workout to find guided workouts and download them to your Band.
Tap Find a Course to find supported golf courses and download the info to your Band.
Tap Apps to connect to a Connected app such as RunKeeper or MyFitnessPal.
Tap Personalize Band to change the background color and wallpaper on your Band.
Tap Manage Tiles to change which tiles appear on your Band and in which order.
Manage your tiles
- On your phone, tap Menu > Manage Tiles to add or remove tiles.
- On the Manage Tiles screen, tap Next to arrange the tiles on your Band.
On the Manage Tiles screen, tap Editto choose settings for a specific tile.

Set your daily goals
On the Home screen, tap Stepsor Calories Burned to make or change the settings or check your progress.
Find a guided workout
Tap Menu > Find a Workout and choose a workout plan to download to your Band.
Watch videos on your phone that demonstrate how to do each exercise in a workout plan.

View detailed info about your traced activities
After you start using your Band, you’ll be able to view graphs and summaries that help you track your progress.
Tap an item on the app’s Home screen, or tap Menu > History and choose an item.

The Band app uses Bluetooth to sync with your Band, and Wi-Fi or a cellular data connection to store your info in the cloud. See Microsoft Band and your data for more info.
The app also provides a channel that other apps on your phone, like email or Facebook, can use to send info and notifications to your Band.

Your Microsoft Health web dashboard offers advanced fitness tracking from your Band data and provides insights to help you achieve your wellness goals. You can also export your data, share data with other fitness apps, and change your account settings.
The Home screen gives you a quick overview of your tracked activities and personal bests.
View your stats and gain insights
Select an activity like Steps, Exercise, or Sleep to see your latest stats.
- To see summaries of your data for different dates and date ranges, select the down arrow at the upper right of the screen, then choose Day, Week, Month, Last 7 Days, or Last 4 Weeks.
- To view stats for different dates, use the arrows next to the date or date range at the upper left of the screen.
The web dashboard shows your stats up to the last time your Band and phone synced your data to the cloud.
Select Observations at the top of the page to see your stats in new ways and to fine tune your fitness plan.
You can see things like which activities burn the most calories and when you get the best sleep.
Export your stats
You can export your stats from the web dashboard to an Excel spreadsheet or a comma-separated values (.csv) file. Here’s how:
|Step 1:||Select your name in the upper right corner of the dashboard and choose Export your data from the drop-down list.|
|Step 2:||Choose the time range, data categories, and file format.|

When the file is ready, use the menu that appears at the bottom of the screen to choose whether to open or save the file.

Connect to fitness apps
To connect with key fitness service providers like RunKeeper or MyFitnessPal, select Connected apps at the bottom of the navigation pane. For more info, see Connected apps.
Change your Microsoft account settings
|Step 1:||Select your name at the upper right of the screen.|
|Step 2:||Select Account settings to manage your Microsoft account—edit your profile, manage account aliases, change your password, and more.|
