A memory leak occurs when a modal dialog box opens in an iframe in Internet Explorer 8

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You use Windows Internet Explorer 8 running on Windows 7 SP1 or on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 to view a webpage that contains an iframe element. 
  • In the iframe, a modal dialog box opens.
  • After the modal dialog box opens, the iframe closes.
In this scenario, a memory leak occurs.

Note The size of the memory leak depends on the size of the style sheet for the webpage that contains the iframe element.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, install most recent cumulative security update for Internet Explorer 8.
