Reliability improvements for VMs that are running on a Windows Server 2012 R2 or Windows Server 2012 host

This article describes an update that improves the reliability for virtual machines (VMs) in Windows Server 2012 R2 or Windows Server 2012 host. The update fixes the following issues. Before you install this update, see the Prerequisites section.


Issue 1

Windows Server 2012 R2 or Windows Server 2012-based VMs can't recover due to an issue in the registry code base.

Issue 2

Assume that you run some .NET Framework applications that are located on a network share in Windows Server 2012. There's a race condition between Memory Manager and Cache Manager that causes failure in starting .Net Framework applications.

How to get this update

You can get this update by using one of the following methods. We have released an update through Windows Update and Microsoft Download Center. Even though this issue is observed only in Windows Server 2012 R2 or Windows Server 2012, the update also applies to Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, and Windows Embedded 8.

Important If you install a language pack after you install this update, you must reinstall this update. Therefore, we recommend that you install any language packs that you need before you install this update. For more information, see Add language packs to Windows.
