Microsoft Band features and functions

 

Microsoft Band packs a lot of features, sensors, and functionality into a small package. Here’s a quick overview of the features on the Band.

  • From the Me Tile, press to cycle through the date, your steps taken, distance traveled, calories burned, and current heart rate.
  • Activate a selection in a tile, like starting a run or workout. A flashing arrow on the touchscreen points to the button.
  • Double press during a run or workout to change the view in the Run Tile or the Exercise Tile.
  • Press and hold to speak to Cortana (Windows Phone and Android only).

  • Speak to Cortana if you’re using a Windows Phone or Android.
UV sensor
  • Get a snapshot of ultraviolet light intensity on the UV Tile.

 Clasp

The clasp adjusts to give you a perfect fit and holds your Band securely on your wrist.

Clasp, tabs, and adjustment slot

To adjust the fit, squeeze the tabs on either side of the clasp, center it on the adjustment slot, and release the tabs. To get the most accurate readings, your Band should fit snugly and comfortably, without moving. For more info, see Get the right fit.

Serial number

The serial number is engraved on the underside of the clasp.

 Back of your Band


Sensors and charging port on back of Band

On the back of your Band are two sensors and the charging port. Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries are encased in your Band.

Under the clasp

  • Heart rate monitor. The optical heart rate monitor measures changes in your heart rate throughout the day. For more info, see Track your heart rate.
  • Galvanic skin response (GSR) sensor. The GSR sensor measures the conductivity of your skin between the GSR sensor under the clasp and the secondary GSR contact point under the face of your Band. This tells your Band whether or not you’re wearing it.

Under the face

  • Charging port. Connect the magnetic charging connector on the USB charging cable to the charging port on your Band (either direction works) and plug the USB end of the cable into a powered USB port (USB 2.0 or greater). For more info, see Microsoft Band battery and charging.
  • Galvanic skin response (GSR) contact point. Completes the GSR circuit.
