Two Keyboards Listed Under Keyboard Branch in Device Manager

Symptoms

When you restart your computer after installing a Universal Serial Bus (USB) keyboard, both the USB keyboard device and the "Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural Keyboard" device are listed in the Keyboard branch in Device Manager.

Cause

This behavior occurs because USB keyboards require the standard 101/102- key or Microsoft Natural Keyboard driver to work properly.

Status

This behavior is by design.

More Information

If you disable the "Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural Keyboard" device in Device Manager and then restart your computer, the USB keyboard does not work. If you remove the "Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural Keyboard" device from Device Manager and then restart your computer, Windows 98 automatically installs the device again.
