WINUP: Windows Update Site Appears in a Different Language

Symptoms

When you connect to the Windows Update Web site, the content of the site may appear in a language other than the language of your browser and operating system. For example, although your browser and operating system are set for English, the Windows Update Web site content may appear in French.

Cause

This behavior may occur if the language configured in the Accept option of your browser is different from the language configured for your browser and operating system.

Resolution

To resolve this behavior, change the preferred language in your browser to the language you want to use to view the Windows Update Web site:
  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Tools.
  3. Click Internet Options.
  4. Click the General tab, and then click Languages.
  5. Remove any languages that you do not want to use for the Windows Update site or click English, and then click Move Up to move English to the top of the list of languages.
You may also have to change the encoding in your browser to correspond with changes to the language preference. To do so in Internet Explorer 4.0, open Internet Explorer, click View, click Fonts, and then select the encoding option that corresponds to the preferred language for Internet Explorer (for example, for English select Western Alphabet).

In Internet Explorer 5.0, open Internet Explorer, click View, click Encoding, and then click the encoding option that corresponds to the preferred language for Internet Explorer (for example, for English select Western European Windows).

Status

This behavior is by design.
