Performance Monitor uses incorrect calculation for certain types of counters in Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, Windows 7 SP1, or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

Symptoms

When you use Performance Monitor to view Windows binary performance log files (.blg) in Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1), or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, the average value that is computed by using the data in the log file for certain counter types is incorrect. The following are a few examples of counters of such counter types that are affected by this change:
  • \LogicalDisk\Avg. Disk sec/Write
  • \LogicalDisk\Avg. Disk sec/Read
  • \LogicalDisk\Avg. Disk sec/Transfer
  • \PhysicalDisk\Avg. Disk sec/Write
  • \PhysicalDisk\Avg. Disk sec/Read
  • \PhysicalDisk\Avg. Disk sec/Transfer
