Additionally, on the Home ribbon, you click New Items, you select More Items, and then you click Outlook Data File. However, nothing happens. The new Outlook data file is not created, and no error occurs.
Finally, you click File, you click Open & Export (in Outlook 2013) or Open (in Outlook 2010), and then you click Open Outlook Data File. Again, nothing happens. You are not prompted for the Outlook data file to open, and no error occurs.
- Exit Outlook.
- Start Registry Editor. To do this, use one of the following procedures, as appropriate for your version of Windows:
- Windows 8: Press Windows Key+R to open a Run dialog box. Type regedit.exe and then press OK.
- Windows 7: Click Start, type regedit.exe in the search box, and then press Enter.
- In Registry Editor, locate and then click the following subkey in the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
- Locate the following value:
- Verify that the Data field for the Personal value contains the path of a valid location. If you're unsure whether this is a valid path, you can copy and paste it into Windows Explorer to determine whether you can access the location.
Note If the path in the Personal value is currently inaccessible because you are connected to a different network or you're working offline, you can reconnect to that network and try to open or create a PST file again. However, if the path in the Personal registry value is no longer a valid location, you can change this path by following the remaining steps.
- Double-click the following value:
- In the Value data box, type the valid path of your My Documents folder, and then click OK.
Note The default data for this value is %USERPROFILE%\Documents.
- Exit Registry Editor.
