Error message when you try to set a reminder in Outlook 2007 for an appointment that is in a linked SharePoint calendar: "The reminder for Event_Name could not be set because the item is in a folder that does not support reminders"

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario. You try to set a reminder for an appointment in Microsoft Office Outlook 2007. The appointment that you are trying to set an appointment for is in a linked Microsoft SharePoint calendar. In this scenario, you may receive the following error message:
The reminder for Event_Name could not be set because the item is in a folder that does not support reminders. Is this OK?

Cause

This issue may occur when you have restricted permissions for the SharePoint calendar.

Workaround

To work around this issue, copy the item for which you want to set a reminder to your local calendar in Outlook 2007:
  1. In the linked SharePoint calendar, open the item for which you want to set a reminder.
  2. Click Copy to My Calendar in the ribbon.
  3. Locate the copied item on your local calendar, and the set a reminder for the copied item.



Note Additionally, this workaround makes sure that the item and the reminder appear in one of the following items:
  • a Microsoft Windows Mobile device
  • a Palm OS device
  • Microsoft Outlook Web Access
