Wi-Fi Direct System Interoperability test fails in Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2

This article describes an issue in which the Wi-Fi Direct System Interoperability test fails in Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2. A hotfix is available to fix this issue. Before you install this hotfix, see the Prerequisites section.

Symptoms

After you install August 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 or a later version of update rollup, the Wi-Fi Direct Group Owner (GO) Re-invoke scenario fails.

When a Wi-Fi Direct device reconnects to a Windows 8.1-based device, Windows will reject the connection. When this issue occurs, the following certification tests fail:
  • Wi-Fi Alliance (WFA) certification tests: P2P-5.1.9 and P2P-5.1.10.
  • Microsoft Windows 8.1 Hardware Certification Kit (HCK) Wi-Fi Direct Scenario Tests: BasicPlus and ReInvoke Stress (GO Re-invoke scenario) logo tests.
In this situation, some Wi-Fi Direct devices may have problems connecting to Windows 8.1-based devices.

Resolution

To fix this issue, we have released a hotfix for Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2.
