This update (KB3009676) contains all the fixes for KB3008242. If you install KB3008242 and then install this update, you will see the version number of PDC.sys drop on your system. The drop in the version number of PDC.sys should not cause alarm.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a device that is running Windows 8.1 and that has a Secure Digital Input Output (SDIO) Wi-Fi driver installed.

  • The device has updates 2919355 and 2883200 installed.

  • You restart the device (warm boot).

  • You put the device in idle for about one minute.

  • You perform one of the following steps:

    • Put the device in hibernation, and then resume the device.

    • Enter Connected Standby, and then resume the device.

    • Disable and then re-enable Wi-Fi.

In this scenario, the clock frequency of the SD bus decreases to about half of the usual rate. This may decrease performance on a Wi-Fi network connection.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, we have released an update rollup and a hotfix for Windows 8.1.

The update rollup fixes many other issues in addition to the issue that the hotfix fixes. We recommend that you use the update rollup. The update rollup is larger than the hotfix. Therefore, the update rollup takes longer to download.

Get the update rollup for Windows 8.1To resolve this issue, install the update rollup that is dated December 2014.

Get the December 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2

Get the hotfix for Windows 8.1A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

To resolve this problem, contact Microsoft Customer Support Services to obtain the hotfix. For a complete list of Microsoft Customer Support Services telephone numbers and information about support costs, visit the following Microsoft website:

http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=supportNote In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a specific update will resolve your problem. The usual support costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for the specific update in question.
