You are unable to uninstall Microsoft Dynamics SL or you are unable to install Microsoft Dynamics SL.  You may receive one or more of the following error messages:

Error Message 1
Error 1628 - Failed to complete installation.

Error Message 2
Error 1603 - Fatal error during installation.
Consult Windows Installed Help (msi.chm) or MSDN for more information

Error Message 3
Error 1605 - This action is only valid for products that are currently installed.

Error Message 4
Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0 Feature Pack 1 Client Error
Error 1720 - There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A script required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.

Error Message 5
A prior version of Microsoft Dynamics SL is installed, uninstall the prior version before proceeding.


To manually uninstall the Microsoft Dynamics SL application and the Microsoft Dynamics SL client, follow these steps:

  1. Log on as the Domain Admin if you use Active Directory on the network.  Otherwise, log on as the Administrator on the computer.

  2. Uninstall the Microsoft Dynamics SL client through Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features.  If you are prompted to remove shared components, click Yes.

  3. Uninstall the Microsoft Dynamics SL application through Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features if this computer had a full application installation. 

  4. Uninstall the Crystal Decisions application through Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features.

  5. Manually remove the following files or folders, if they exist:   
    • \Program Files\Common Files\Crystal Decisions\ folder
    • \Program Files\Crystal Decisions\ folder
    • \WINDOWS\CRYSTAL\ folder
    • \WINDOWS\system32\swimapi.dll
    • \WINDOWS\system32\capicom.dll
    • \WINDOWS\solomon65.isu
    • \WINDOWS\solomon65c.isu
    • \WINDOWS\solomon65c.urg
    • \WINDOWS\solomon650c.isu
    • \Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Microsoft Dynamics SL\Solomon.ini 

      Note As the Solomon.ini file existed in other locations in previous versions of Microsoft Dynamics SL, please review the following article that describes the other locations where the Solomon.ini file might exist:

  6. Make copies of any folders that remain in your Microsoft Dynamics SL installation folder, and then delete the Microsoft Dynamics SL installation folder.  The default locations for this folder are as follows:

         Drive:\Program Files\Solomon\
         Drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\SL\Applications\

  7. If the computer in question has only the Microsoft Dynamics SL client installed, disconnect the mapped drive on the computer which points back to the Microsoft Dynamics SL program files on the server.

  8. Create a backup of the registry.
  9. Click Start, click Run, and then type Regedit. In the Registry Editor, delete the following keys/entries if they exist:
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Solomon Software In\
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft Business Solutions\
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0 Feature Pack 1\
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0 Feature Pack 1 Client\
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Dynamics SL Feature Pack 1\
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Solomon\
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Solomon Software Inc\
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Microsoft Business Solutions\
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{49EB3FF4-CA03-4C46-B285-421F17C622DA}
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{8A94281C-8C6C-42FA-9A47-16F789089C58
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\InstallShield_{49EB3FF4-CA03-4C46-B285-421F17C622DA}
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\InstallShield_{8A94281C-8C6C-42FA-9A47-16F789089C58}
    • Note Depending on the version of Microsoft Dynamics SL that was installed, the version listed in each registry key may vary.
    • Restart the computer.

 If you are running SL 2011 on the 64 bit edition of Windows 7, Windows 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2, delete the following keys/entries if they exist:

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\DynamicsSL
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft Dynamics SL 2011 FP1

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WoW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\InstallShield_{674B8EF0-2BB0-4D59-A7CA-E77BB34004C0}
