The Terminal Service Gateway may randomly disconnect machines

Symptoms

When we connect to a machine using a Terminal Server Gateway on the domain, the session may get disconnected after a couple of minutes.

The following events will be logged when the Terminal Server Gateway session is initiated and reset using Remote Web Workplace or the Remote Desktop Client:

Cause

This happens because there is an incorrect recycling pattern for the application pool specified by the event 5117 and 5013.


Resolution

Method 1 (Recommended):

Open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager from the Administrative Tools on the Windows Start menu.

Navigate to Application Pools in IIS Manager console.

Click to select the SBS Web Applications application pool.

Click on Recycling in the Actions pane on the right.

Uncheck the Change the value of Private memory usage (in KB).

Continue with the Edit Application Pool Recycling Settings dialog box to click Next and Finish.

Restart IIS service.



Method 2:

Open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager from the Administrative Tools on the Windows Start menu.

Navigate to Application Pools in IIS Manager console.

Open the Advanced Settings of the SBS Web Applications application pool

Navigate to the Recycling section.

Change the value of Private Memory Limit (KB) to 0.

Apply the changes and restart IIS service.
