Outlook 2010 crashes if update 2825678 is installed


After you install the Microsoft Office 2013 MSI or Click-to-Run (15.0.4711.1002) updates for April 2015, Outlook 2010 crashes.

When this problem occurs, the following crash signature for event ID 1000 is logged in the Application log:

Faulting application name: Outlook.exe
Version: 14.0.7143.5000
Faulting module name: Msvcr100.dll
Version: 10.0.40219.325
Offset: 0x0008AF3E


For computers that have an MSI installation of Office 2013 and Outlook 2010, this problem occurs if one of the updates that are installed is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article.

For computers that have both Office 2013 (Click-to-Run) and Outlook 2010 installed, Office 2013 build 15.0.4711.1002 from April 2015 includes the same changes that are included in the MSI update that's described in KB article 2825678. Therefore, computers that have Click-to-Run installations of Office 2013 are also affected.


To resolve this issue, update Office 2013 by using one of the following methods, depending on your Office 2013 installation. If you need help in determining your Office 2013 installation type, see the More Information section.


If you cannot install the update that's described in the "Resolution" section, use one of the following procedures (as appropriate for your Office installation) as a temporary workaround. If you need help in determining your installation Office 2013 type, see the More Information section.
  • MSI

    Uninstall update 2825678.
    1. Open Control Panel.
    2. Click Uninstall a Program.
    3. Click View installed updates.
    4. Select the update for KB2825678, and then click Uninstall.
    5. Click Uninstall when you are prompted to confirm your selection.
  • Click-to-run

    Disable the Outlook Social Connector in Outlook 2010.
    1. Start Outlook 2010 in safe mode:
      1. Press and hold the Ctrl key when you start Outlook.
      2. When you are prompted to start Outlook in safe mode, release the Ctrl key, and then click Yes.
    2. On the File tab, click Options.
    3. Click Add-Ins, and then next to the Manage control, click Go.
    4. In the COM Add-ins dialog box, clear the Microsoft Outlook Social Connector check box.

    5. Click OK.
    6. Exit and then restart Outlook.

More Information

To determine whether you are using a Click-to-Run installation of Office 2013, click the File tab in any Office 2013 program, and then click Account. If "Office Updates" appears under Product Information, you are using a Click-to-Run installation of Office.

If you do not see "Office Updates" under Product Information, you are using an MSI installation of Office 2013.

To review the Application log, follow these steps:
  1. In Control Panel, open Administrative Tools.
  2. Double-click Event Viewer.
  3. In the navigation pane, select Application under Windows Logs.
  4. In the Actions pane, click Filter Current Log.
  5. In the Filter Current Log dialog box, enter 1000 (as shown in the following screen shot), and then click OK.
