Terminal Server Users See "Shut Down" Command on Start Menu

Users connected to a Windows 2000 Terminal Server see a Shut Down command on the Start menu.

This behavior maintains a consistent interface with the Windows 2000 Server console.

An administrator can remove the Shut Down command from the Start menu by applying a policy on the server.

The "Disable/Remove the Shut Down command" policy is listed under System Tools/Group Policy/User Configuration/Administrative Templates/Start Menu and Taskbar/ in the Computer Management console.

This behavior is by design.

More Information

Note that users cannot shut down the server unless they have sufficient permissions to do so. If a user without sufficient permissions attempts to shut down the server, the user receives the message "You do not have permission to shut down this computer."
