A customer search of a very large database in Retail POS of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 takes longer than expected to finish

Symptoms

You run a customer search in Retail POS in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012. When the database is very large, such as 240,000 customer records, the customer search is slower than expected. For example, you might expect the customer search to take several seconds to finish. However, in this scenario, the customer search may take 20 seconds or longer to finish.
