Summary
This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) makes sure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates.
This update includes changes to the servicing stack that are required to Update Windows installation media with Dynamic Update compatible with future Cumulative Updates. This update is only required if your install media (offline OS image) has not been updated with Cumulative Updates dated between July 25, 2023 (KB5028244) and April 9, 2024 (KB5036892).
If your media has not been updated since July 25, 2023 (KB5028244), the “DISM /offline Add-Package” will fail with the following error code on media images for LCUs starting with the April 23, 2024 Cumulative Update (KB5036979):
