The SMS_Executive service process (Smsexec.exe) in System Center Configuration Manager 2007 may crash if you have Intel AMT-related software installed

If you have Intel Active Management Technology (Intel AMT)-related software installed on a computer that is running System Center Configuration Manager 2007, the SMS_Executive service process (Smsexec.exe) may crash.

This problem may occur if you have a version of Intel AMT that is earlier than version 2.5 installed. The Amtopmgr.dll module does not correctly translate packages from AMT firmware that is earlier than version 2.5.

More Information

A major barrier to IT efficiency is lowered by Intel Active Management Technology (Intel AMT). Intel AMT is available on systems that use Intel Centrino processors with vPro technology, or on systems that use Intel Core2 processors with vPro technology.

By using built-in platform capabilities and popular third-party management and security applications, Intel AMT lets IT personnel better discover, protect, and fix their networked computing assets.

Intel AMT requires the computer system to have an Intel AMT-enabled chipset, network hardware and software, connection to a power source, and a corporate network connection. Setup requires configuration by the purchaser. Setup may also require one or more of the following:
  • Scripting by using the management console
  • Additional integration into existing security frameworks to enable certain functionalities
  • Modifications of new business processes
