An "Access Denied" message is returned when you edit an access control on a network-mapped drive on a Windows Server 2008-based computer if the target folder is empty. When the administrator tries to edit the user security setting for the access control for the network drive, the "Access Denied" message appears on the desktop. However, the security setting is created correctly.
Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista-based clients emulate the files and subfolders in a target folder after you set a security setting to a target folder. Meanwhile, Windows API returns a ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND error. This error is not very important. It just indicates that there are no files in the target folder to access. However, Windows Explorer handles the ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND error as if an access error occurred.
You can ignore this error message. Actually, the security setting is saved correctly.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.
