Not sure if this is the right fix? We've added this issue to our memory dump diagnostic which can confirm.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You configure a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 to use Microsoft Multipath I/O (MPIO) and the Microsoft Device Specific Module.

  • You connect a storage device that is configured to use Asymmetric Logical Unit Access to the computer.

In this scenario, the operating system crashes, and you receive the following Stop error message:

STOP: 0x000000D1 ( parameter1 , parameter2 , parameter3 , parameter4 )
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Notes

  • The Stop error can occur when a multipath device is being enumerated.

  • The parameters in the Stop error message may vary, depending on the configuration of the computer.

  • Not all "0x000000D1" Stop errors are caused by this issue.

Cause

This issue occurs because a transient error in the storage subsystem occurs so that MPIO cannot obtain the data from the SCSI inquiry page 80/83 during the multipath device enumeration. Therefore, the MPIO driver sends a NULL pointer to the Microsoft Device Specific Module driver, and you receive the Stop error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.

Resolution
