You may experience one or more of the following symptoms when you open a SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio project in Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 (SP1):

  • Visual Studio 2005 SP1 crashes.

  • You receive an access violation error message in Devenv.exe.

Symptoms

This issue can occur because of a race condition that occurs when the Data Flow design surface in a SQL Server Integration Services package is drawn and certain font objects are released.

Cause

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to resolve only the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next service pack or the next version that contains this hotfix. 

Note In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support calls may be canceled if a Technical Support Professional for Microsoft Dynamics and related products determines that a specific update will resolve your problem. The usual support costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for the specific update in question.

Prerequisites

To apply this hotfix, you must have Visual Studio 2005 SP1 installed.

Restart requirement

You must restart the computer after you apply this hotfix if the affected file is being used.

We recommend that you close all instances of Visual Studio before you apply this hotfix.

This hotfix does not replace a previously released hotfix.
